End of Life Care
Case Study - Companion Care
Ross is a 75-year-old male. He has recently experienced the loss of his wife. He never had children and last year his last remaining friend died. Two months ago, his driver’s license was taken away from him because of his deteriorating eyesight. His physical body is failing but his mind is very sharp and he enjoys getting out and about. He decides to hire a private nurse to support him whilst out and about as he has oxygen requirements due to a lung condition. He knows he could get a carer for this but feels safer with a nurse in case anything happens to him whilst he is out.
Case Study - Post-op Care
Rachael is a 30-year-old woman who have recently had a cesarian section. This is her first child and as she is new to the area with no extended family support she hires a private nurse to support her with caring for herself and the baby whilst recovering from the surgery. She is able to sleep during the day knowing that a nurse is there who could look after the baby should the need arise. She does this for 6 weeks whilst she recovers from surgery and develops a rhythm that supports her, the baby and her partner.
Case Study - Attending appointments with clients
Francesca is a 56-year-old female who is living with liver cancer. She regularly sees her GP and oncologist. She uses the services of a private nurse to accompany her to medical appointments as she is often unsure of the medical terminology used by doctors and likes someone there to support her to understand what is being said so that she can ask more questions and seek greater clarification of her test results and treatment options. When Francesca is required to go to hospital she has the services of a private nurse to act as an advocate for her as well as someone to give her extra support whilst in hospital.
